Vietnam Aircrews

The first Wild Weasel loss occurred on Dec. 20, 1965. While on an Iron Hand mission over North Vietnam, anti-aircraft fire hit the F-100F crewed by Capts. John Pitchford and Robert Trier. Both ejected, but Capt. Trier was killed while exchanging fire with North Vietnamese troops on the ground. Capt. Pitchford was wounded by his captors and spent the rest of the war as a POW.
Capt Pitchford was taken as a Prisoner of War on December 20, 1965. After spending 2,612 days in captivity, Col Pitchford was released during Operation Homecoming on February 12, 1973.
