A Happy 2025 to all Wild Weasels. This first edition is all about fiscal accounting and what Dave Brog and Jerry Knots do for us to ensure we are in compliance with our role as a non-profit! We also want to thank Eric Jiran for being a new part of the financial team. Also we have some things you might want to contribute too in ongoing efforts.
February
In this update we salute Lt Col Knight Prevendar who is the Commander of the 79 Fighter Squadron Tigers! A big hats off to the great people of the 20th OG and what they do for America everyday! A great update from Sleet our Secretary for the Society! We are asking for your help in sending emails to key staffers the next two weeks supporting House Resoultion 530 which asks for a Cancer Study for Aviators (info below) and we have added two podcasts that update everyone on both Aviation Cancer and High G RSI work from our own Quack Bear and Aztec!
March
One of the Air Force’s newest Major Generals Akshai “Abu” Gandhi has an interview on his career and especially being a recent Wing CC in the Middle East. Kudos for those Weasels that joined us in the “Most Memorable Mission” Podcast. We had about 8 great stories, while these missions in this case were mostly combat related, we need to remember that all missions are what we are trying to capture! 29 March will be Vietnam Veteran’s recognition day and to our Vietnam veterans thank you for what you did and still do for our country. I have learned so much of your individual courage, innovation and patriotism!
April
In this update we salute some of our family members and volunteers and the great work they do in promoting our Society, our culture and keeping the Wild Weasel ethos alive and well. Nicole Prevender talks to us about the family culture she has built in the 79th Fighter Squadron in ensuring families are taken care of during their hectic schedule of deployments.
June
We have a great article on Tom Hanton’s career and his experience as a POW. Dave Melton has been instrumental in conducting interviews and writing up these living history notes (thanks Dave). Aztec has good news and a caution on the ACES Act that he has led the MACH Coalition to success in. A big thank you to Chip Mattingly who has provided support to the Weasels on this issue and has volunteered to support it in the future. We also want to say goodbye to Major Jacque Vasta who as the Commander of the 25 Cadet Squadron Wild Weasels instituted a Wild Weasel of the month, improved the legacy room and overall made the cadets aware of their Weasel heritage!
October
In this issue we get a great look at Weasel Happenings, an update on the Reunion (to include the first draft of Annex A for Reunion events). In addition, we have a great interview with Col “Fuego” Tuzel who has been a stalwart supporter of the Society as the 20th OG Commander. We also say goodbye to our Vice Chief in Charge, Maj Gen Abu Gandhi who has been a great friend and superb Wild Weasel. After 3 years plus he will become the Vice Chief Emeritus as he moves to USAFE to take over the A-7 there!
